Multicast to Unicast with udpxy - Duration: 2. Auto Install Ministra Stalker Portal. Support Ubuntu 16.04. Access PCs in your network, easily - Free Download - Duration: 1:54. Building and installing - Untar the.tgz source distribution into a directory of your choice by running tar -xzvf udpxy.X.Y-ZZ.tgz or gzip -dc udpxy.X.Y-ZZ.tgz tar -xvf - Make sure GNU make and gcc are available (gcc 3.x and up should work, lower versions are not guaranteed to build the source correctly); for compilers other than gcc.
Here I will describe the setup I used to play multicast IPTV on a WDTV live.
Prerequisites
a UPnP media player, but you can adapt this to virtually any media player that is capable of playing a media stream. I am using a WDTV live in this example.
a linux based machine that will act as a multicast proxy. I am using my NAS (amd64) running Ubuntu 13.10 for this purpose.
an IPTV multicast source in your network, i.e. your internet provider and your router has to support it
an Android phone with BubbleUPnP installed, but this is optional and actually not part of the proxying process.
Theory

Wikipedia explains very well what IPTV and multicast is. The problem I want to solve is, that the WDTV is not capable of playing multicast streams directly. So what I want to do is to make my NAS act as a proxy. The NAS will open and receive the multicast IPTV stream, remove the RTSP, in which the stream is wrapped, and deliver it as HTTP stream. If we now point the WDTV to the HTTP stream URL on the NAS, it will play the IPTV stream. This pointing can be done by adding the HTTP stream URL to the database of a UPnP mediaserver (also running on the NAS) Mediatomb supports this, but I prefer to use minidlna, which does not. It is also possible to add the HTTP stream URL to a saved playlist in BubbleUPnP manually and then use this app to control the WDTV and play the IPTV stream.
How to do it
Udpxy Ubuntu Download Free
Set up updxy on your NAS. Download it, untar, build, install $ ./configure && make && sudo make install
Run udpxy, you may use Upstart to run it permanently and start automatically at boot Create the user udpxy beforeand
Now connect to http://nas:10000/status to check if udpxy is running.
If it does, try opening a stream like http://nas:10000/rtp/239.35.10.3:10000 with your browser or VLC. If it plays, you're done.
Add the HTTP stream URLs to your media server or BubbleUPnP.
recording IPTV streams

With udpxy comes a udpxrec, which opens and recieves a multicast stream, rips off the RTSP an saves it to a file. Call udpxrec without arguments to get help. You can use udpxrec in combination with at to use your nas as a video recorder.
